On behalf of us all at Neptune Theatre welcome to the 2022 Halifax Fringe. What a wild theatrical ride you are about to embark upon!

As an artist I first encountered ‘Fringe’ in Edinburgh at the age of 16. It was my first extended stay away from home, my first non-high school play and a 3 week journey of self-discovery, exploration and awakening. So many plays, so many actors, so many beers and so many new experiences. I recall standing on street corners at all hours handing out flyers for our show – there was no internet and social media in 1984! Just trying to get a few bums in seats. We were in love with theatre and we were in a festival of firsts. That spirit remains, for me, each and every Fringe I attend.

I believe it is vitally important that Neptune Theatre, as Nova Scotia’s Regional theatre, support and participate in the Halifax Fringe. Neptune is committed to the Nova Scotia theatre community and to ensuring that we actively participate in the growth and creation of exciting work and exciting artists.

By participating in the Fringe I feel that Neptune is making good on a number of ideals. We are the regional theatre of ALL Nova Scotians. Our stories and our artists are welcome in our space, to create, to work and share their stories. Our continued involvement in the Halifax Fringe still makes this AD very proud.

I hope you have an enriching Halifax Fringe. I hope you see shows in all the venues that excite you, challenge you; that make you laugh, think, cry, and stretch. You will see some shows you adore and some you really do not like at all! That’s the absolute best thing about Fringe. I congratulate and welcome all the creators and artists and on behalf of my colleagues at Neptune Theatre I wish you all a joyous Fringe 2022.
